The Aveda Institute of
Beauty & Wellness -
Catwalk for Water

"Wednesday, April 28, 2021, The Institute of Beauty and Wellness (IBW) Milwaukee and Madison, celebrated Earth Month with an evening of stunning fashion, fun, and bustling creativity from the industry’s best up-and-coming beauty professionals.

Current students and IBW alumni joined forces to create 8 dresses completely out of repurposed materials. The students took to local junkyards, visited friends and family to access their recyclables, and more to successfully create their sustainable “trashion” looks.

This event was two-fold. First, the goal was to promote critical and creative thinking within the student body while producing striking looks with limited supplies. Second, the Catwalk For Clean Water event draws attention to Earth Month, with all ticket sales benefiting local partner Urban Ecology Center and global partner Charity:Water.

The beauty industry creates over 877 pounds of waste every single minute. As an Aveda school, IBW faculty and students work tirelessly year-round to create a learning environment with a very small carbon footprint. From utilizing 100% vegan products that are completely manufactured with renewable wind energy, to working annually with non-profit partners such as Charity:Water, the student body has a heavy focus on environmental sustainability. Earth Month is a thread woven throughout the curriculum of these salon and spa students."
