6 ft.
I use my camera as a tool to connect with people. Lately I’ve been focusing my attention on connecting with the community, online and in person from over 6 ft away.
Mid March I was reviewing my business and I knew I needed to find a way to adapt to the unavoidable changes. My top priority is to keep myself, my family and those around me safe. The sooner we can overcome this, the sooner I can resume business and spend time with the people I love.
I started free, online photography courses and began photographing my porch portraits.
These portraits started with me photographing people I know and love. The idea came when I was delivering groceries to a family member that isn’t able to leave her home. I called her and said “I’ll leave your groceries on the front porch. Wave to me from the window!” I left wanting more...wishing there was a way I could connect on a deeper level that still kept us safe.
The next time I dropped something off for her, I brought my camera. That was the birth of the project.
I wanted to be able to express my feelings during this time through the portraits and also give people in the community something to look forward to and something they can look back on and remember positively from this time.
